Vikas Chhajer heads Business Strategy, Sustainability & Technology advancements for the Gemini Group. Established in 1989, Gemini is one of the world's leading circular economy platforms, collecting and recycling waste from over 500 locations. Gemini collects over 500,000 tonnes of recyclable plastics and gives a second life to over 4 billion pounds of rubber, metals, and paper, including 50 Million tyres, 300,000 cars, and 5 Million refrigerators.
A certified ESG Board Director, Vikas is also in the working groups of Business Coalition for the Global Plastic Treaty and Pew Trusts’ Breaking the Plastic Wave initiative. For over a decade, he has held several roles in the Gemini before taking charge as the Chief Sustainability and Strategy Officer. He started his career with Credit Suisse and CRISIL followed by IndiaMART.com. Vikas did his Masters from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar, India.
For Gemini’s Indian subsidiary, Gemcorp Recycling & Technologies, Vikas spearheaded the project and started ground operations; now collecting more than 3,000 tonnes of plastic waste monthly and recycling it with complete compliance and traceability-inclusive blockchain technology. The project has so far uplifted the lives of more than 1,000 waste pickers and their families. In 2021, this initiative was also listed in Fortune Magazine’s ‘Change the World List 2021’; and nominated for the Financial Times / IFC Business Transformation Award.
